Net Term and HyperTerminal Personal Edition v2.0 for Win95

If you have access to the Internet both of these packagea can be used to access the Almac Bulletin Board System by telnetting to telnet://bbs.almac.co.uk Net Term and HyperTerminal differs from many other telnet clients in that it allows you to easily download QWK mail packets using our Qmail door in a telnet session. QWK packets are a popular method which bulletin board users employ to receive their mail and news in an efficient cost-effective manner.

Net Term and HyperTerminal not only allow you to transfer; they also enable users to download/upload files from our extensive file areas using the telnet-in z modem protocol. To select this protocol type t at the main board prompt on the bulletin board system to bring up the protocol selection screen, and then type t again.

1stReader

Almac have purchased on behalf of our members a special edition of 1stReader, the comms and off-line mail reader package for pc's. Previously, the shareware version would only let you read 20 messages per conference. This special edition removes this restriction and makes it a fully registered product when using it with the Almac bulletin board system.

1stalmac.exe is a self-uncompressing program that will give you some eight files one of which is install.exe. Just run that program and the package will install to c:\1st. By answering a few simple questions during installation, it will be ready to run with Almac's bulletin board system.

If you're using Windows 95 install the program through a DOS window rather than the add/remove program option. There is a 1st.pif file which you can then drag to your desktop and it will then work by clicking on the icon.

The Almac BBS Online Manual

almacman.zip (122K) is available for download. Using WinZip, unzip this file into a directory on your hard drive, and run the manual.exe file. This file contains a full tutorial on how to use all of aspects of Almac's Bulletin Board Service. Non-pc users should download manual.txt (319K) which is a ASCII text version.

Almac BBS Demo

One of the most important files for a new user to download on first encountering the Almac Bulletin Board system is demotut.exe. This is a self-extracting file which contains a whole host of DOS executables and tutorials on all aspects of Almac, from messages to files, conferences to the Internet. But it doesn't just appear as text for you to read. The demo actually runs you through each part of the bulletin board as if you were really there online.

To install, download the file into a directory on your hard drive and type demotut.exe to uncompress the files. Then type DEMO to begin the demo. (This demo only works with pc's).
