UNDERBLANKETS
FB Cork Underblankets
Developed in response to our customers needs for a sharper definition of fine images, particularly when spot coating.
Tested by Komori Limited to evaluate the lay of U/V and Aqueous Varnishes; and by Du Pont to evaluate their Cyrel CL plates.
The tests realised the following benefits:
- Improved transfer of coatings with better gloss (where applicable) with U/V and water based coatings.
- Reduced roller and cylinder pressures leading to reduced plate wear.
- Faster make-ready through one-piece packing.
- Reduced downtime.
- Sharper definition of fine images - important for spot coating.
FB Cork Underbankets are also used to further improve the performance of compressible and conventional offset blankets.
The blankets are based on natural cork which is laminated to a fabric carrier for added strength. They can be supplied in any size up to 60 inches (1524mm). Standard callipers produced are:
inches | mm |
0.040 | 1.02 minimum |
0.060 | 1.52 |
0.068 | 1.73 |
0.080 | 2.03 |
0.084 | 2.13 |
0.125 | 3.18 |
Other callipers can be produced if required.
John Matthews of Kamori, Leeds, England carried out tests which compared FB Cork Underblankets with conventional packing by evaluating the lay of UV and Aqueus Varnishes. The conclusion:
I feel that by using Farnbeck's FB Cork Underblanket it brings out the bet value of gloss, and by applying less pressure to applicating roller and paper, there is less chance of anomalies appearing on the printed sheet using Du Pont Cyrel relief plates. The blanket used for the test was transferred to machines at five various printing sites and the improvement in quality was immediately obvious. On examination the blanket had lost none of it's recovery properties or thickness.
John Matthews, Kamori
Underlay blankets
Farnbeck produce a complete range of underlay blankets for letterpress, litho and offset printing.
The blankets are made from pre-stretched 100% cotton with a rubber laminate construction and a final coating of polymer. This provides high quality, strength, resilience and a high degree of stability. The recently developed Rhino Underlay with cork interply provides even better resilience and recovery.
