The Bible only uses the word "self" 6 times ,believe it or not, so soul may well be a synonym

That soul shall be cut off= put to death, ransom for a soul , a soul sins = a person sins, soul seems more spoken of as the person being than spirit which is more the person having.

Le 22:3 Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.

Pr 16:24¶ Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

Isa 58:5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

ATONEMENT MADE FOR THE SOUL
Le 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
BODY IS HIGHLY USED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT BUT HARDLY AT ALL IN THE OLD (15% of occurances)
Whole body thrown into hell? Mat 6
Bible never talks about the body feeling or being hugry or anything like that. When you put a pin in a person its the soul that feels the pain. When the body needs food its the soul that feels hungry.
