The Chemical List is an e-mail group run by VMG, Virgin Music, on which about 450 people share information and opinions on the Chemical Brothers, other musicians, making and marketing of music, live gigs, new releases, what they've had for breakfast and other such vitally important things. The list receives about 200 e-mails week, which works out at around 3Mb of writing, and usually from the same small band of people. It is the best place to find out all the news first, before any of the web sites or newsgroups, and the only way to get all the news and gossip in the Chemical world.
To take a look at some of the people on the list right now, you can visit the Chemical Listees Page. The list is always keen to see new people adding their voice and making the most of the service, so if you think it's something you should get into, all the information you need to join is below. If you've got any problems or questions I'll try my bets to answer them for you at chemical@edinburgh.almac.co.uk.

If you're already on the list and want to get off, but can't remember how, there are instructions on how to unsubscribe below as well.

How to Join the Chemical List

If you want to join the merry gang that is the Chemical List, and you're prepared to receive the 200 or so messages a week about all sorts of vaguely related topics, then here's how to subscribe:

1. Write an e-mail to majordomo@vmg.co.uk from your e-mail account.

   Eg. if you want all the list mail to be sent to your home e-mail account, then don't subscribe from work.

2. Leave the Subject field blank .

3. In the body (where you write) of the message type:

   subscribe chemical

   no need to say anything else, no "please" or "me", just subscribe chemical.

4. Send the message.

5. In about 12 hours you will receive a message from majordomo welcoming to you the list, and of course all the mail sent to the list.

6. To post up your own messages, write them as usual then send them to chemical@vmg.co.uk .

How to Get Off the List

Everyone subscribed to the list does tend to get a bit pissed off when people don't know how to get them selves off the list properly. So if you fall into that category, here's how to unsubscribe:

1. Write an e-mail to majordomo@vmg.co.uk from the same e-mail account you used to subscribe.

   Eg. if you Subscribed from home, don't try to UnSubscribe from work.

2. Leave the Subject field blank .

3. In the body (where you write) of the message type:

   unsubscribe chemical

   no need to say anything else, no "please" or "now", just unsubscribe chemical.

4. Send the message.

5. In about 12 hours you will receive conformation that you're no longer on the list.

Problems over, you will no longer receive any messages from the Chemical List and you get to live your quiet, secluded and shameful life happily ever after.
