The Almac File Areas

THE FILE SEARCH UTILITY

Almac now has a powerful file search utility you may use to search thorugh the entire file listing on the bulletin board system. Once you've found the name(s) of the file(s), simply:

1. Telnet onto the BBS at telnet://server2.almac.co.uk using Net Term
   Net Term can be downloaded from the software download area.
2. Log on
3. At the main board prompt, type t to bring up the transfer protocol selection options, then type t again to select the telnet-in z modem protocol
4. Return to the main board prompt, and type d "filename" to download the file (where "filename" is the name of the file).

FILE AREAS

ALMAC receives a weekly tape from the States with all the most recent files containing utilities, games, FAQ's, etc. The tape is couriered over and usually arrives on Thursday each week. These files are immediately posted for our subscribers. On average over one hundred megabytes of new files are added to our BBS each week.

So to get a listing of those file do watch the NEWS as we post a news item saying that the tape has arrived. When you see that you can download TAPE1.ZIP which contains a text list of all the new files. The new files are posted to file area 2.

We retain TAPE2.ZIP, TAPE3.ZIP and TAPE4.ZIP for the previous weeks.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE FILE LISTS

Most of our File Lists are only available from the Main Board so if you try downloading from within a conference you will get the message "file not found".

THE BIG FILE LIST - FILE.ZIP: This file contains all our files on the board

FILE AREA LISTS - FILExx.ZIP:

We have broken down each file area into a seperate listing. Just find the area number you are interested in (eg. File Area 2) and all you need to do is download FILExx (eg. FILE2.ZIP) and so just substitute the "xx" bit with the file area number. We also group the list in 10's to help those with slower modems to download our full list.. such as F1-9.zip, F10-19.zip, F20-21.zip, etc.
